KON-TIKI THAILAND WINS 2008 PROJECT AWARE MARINE ENVIRONMENT AWARD

Peter Abrahamsson, Pea Thorstensson, Michael Wallentin, ADEX 2008, PADI Winner Award

At ADEX 2008, the biggest dive exhibition in Asia, Kon-Tiki Thailand was awarded the Project AWARE Marine Environment award, thereby recognized as the most prominent dive center in the entire Asia Pacific region.

The annual ADEX Tradeshow was held this year in Singapore. For 2008, ADEX decided to focus on environmental issues and eco-diving. So apart from the traditional stands presenting the latest and greatest in equipment and dive destinations, this year the ADEX show also boasted its very own ECO-village.

The companies and organizations represented in the ECO-village had been specially invited due to their leading examples within the conservation arena. Kon-Tiki and Sea Hounds were the only dive centres invited to the village to serve as living examples on how to incorporate conservational efforts into running a successful dive centres.

As part of the ADEX show, outstanding efforts are rewarded by industry awards. Given the environmental focus of the show a special interest was geared towards the "Project AWARE Marine Environment Award". The award aims to recognize outstanding ecological achievements with a focus on fostering environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation.

In competition with more than a thousand dive centres, Kon-Tiki was awarded the great honor of accepting this award as a token of appreciation for all the efforts and initiatives put forward by the company in the last few seasons.

At Kon-Tiki, we are of course both happy and proud to receive this prestigious award. We find it even more important that the industry by rewarding similar efforts choose to take a stand for the environment we depend on. We also see it as an important signal to the community which at the same time can serve to inspire the numerous individuals and companies who has been doing so much, and continue to do even more in the field of environmental enlightenment and conservation.

Kon-Tiki Krabi is a PADI/National Geographic and 5-Star IDC Center as well as Project AWARE GoEco Operator. With more than 30 years experience in southern Thailand Kon-Tiki is recognized as a leading educational dive center.
Winner of project AWARE’s “Environmental Achievement Award” in 2006 & 2007
