Thailand is among the big winners of the fifth AsiaSpa Awards, presented by AsiaSpa magazine — the region's most recognized spa and wellness publication.
Thailand won awards in five categories — "Asian Spa Capital of the Year", "Destination Spa of the Year" for Six Senses Destination Spa Phuket, “Medi-Spa of the Year” for S Medical Spa in Bangkok, "Spa Personality of the Year" for Karina Stewart, Co-founder, Brand & Concept Director, Kamalaya Wellness Sanctuary, and “Men's Spa Treatment of the Year” for "Man Space Healing Balance Massage", i.sawan Residential Spa & Club, Grand Hyatt, Erawan Bangkok.
The winners of the fifth AsiaSpa Awards, presented by AsiaSpa magazine were announced and honoured at a glittering evening in Hong Kong.
Celebrating the best in innovation and quality in spas around the region, the 27 categories voted on by 28 independent judges were won by spas, spa personalities, associations and resorts that have set the benchmarks for quality and service in the region.
Hosted at Hong Kong's classy Armani Bar, it was a night of glitz and glamour as Asia's spa community came together to celebrate its finest.
Green T. House in Beijing also won for "Day Spa of the Year" as well as "Spa Design of the Year". "Spa Event of the Year" went to the Global Spa Summit held at Interlaken, Switzerland. In the first year for the category "Best Children's Spa Menu of the Year", the Ice Cream Spa at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island emerged as the category's debut winner.
"The year has been a particularly tough one for the spa and wellness industry, yet some spas, brands and resorts have come out even stronger than before. The highly respected ASA are there to recognise the very best of the best and push forward the whole industry to higher standards." said Olivier Burlot, Managing Director of Blu Inc Media.
"Asia currently has the largest number of spas under development of any region in the world, a fact that is reflected in the magazine's pages," said AsiaSpa's Editor-in-Chief, Rebecca Walker. "We are looking forward to an exciting 2010."

AsiaSpa Awards
The AsiaSpa Awards were created in 2005 in order to give recognition to the sensational spas in Asia. Now in its fifth edition — AsiaSpa Awards 2009, the awards are proving to be more popular than ever.
Setting a great benchmark for spas in the region as well as around the world, the AsiaSpa Awards also help put the spot light on Asia's best spas around the world.
Innovation and Quality
In particular highlighting innovation and quality, essential ingredients found in the world's best spas, the AsiaSpa Awards dig deep into the spa industry to find the most original places to relax, heal and grow. Whatever their size or concept, if a spa is consistently providing outstanding treatments then it is ripe for nomination.
Accessibility
AsiaSpa magazine has worked hard to establish the region's most accessible spa awards. Any spa is welcome to put forward their bid for a nomination, at absolutely no cost. As a result this opens up the awards to spas whether they are part of an international brand or a single individual neighbourhood spa.
Transparency
In order to satisfy the spa industry that the awards are without bias, they have been set up to be as transparent as possible. While spas are welcome to put forward their nominations, it is our panel of over 20 expert judges that initiate the shortlist of nominations, and finally choose the winners. They send their final choices straight to the OLN law firm and the final winners are announced at the annual awards ceremony each November.
The Judges
In order to have the fairest judging criteria possible, the judges are hand-picked from almost every country in Asia. Experts in the field of spa, healing and beauty, they objectively select the spas most deserving of their nominations, from both their home destinations and the rest of Asia.
