EUROPEANS FLOCKING TO THAILAND FOR HEALTH AND WELLNESS Thailand is becoming very well known in Europe and especially Germany for both preventive and curative sides of the health and wellness phenomena.
THAILAND SEES BIG GROWTH IN GERMAN RETIREES, BUSINESS TRAVELLERS Germany is Thailand’s second highest source market from Europe, second only to the UK. In January – December 2007, Thailand recorded 544,495 German visitors (by nationality), up 5.39% over 2006.
JOINT CAMPAIGN SET TO LAUNCH IN EUROPE, MIDDLE EAST Thailand is set to launch a major tactical marketing campaign in Europe and the Middle East to attract visitors during the “Green Season,” the period of the annual summer rainy season.
SMALL AIR OPERATORS STAKING A CLAIM In addition to the numerous mainstream airlines plying the skies of Thailand, a small number of commuter airlines have also emerged in recent years. They are playing a major role in facilitating the travel needs of small-scale private charters, business groups, medical evacuation facilities and exclusive incentives.
WORK PROGRESSING ON SUVARNABHUMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT RAIL-LINK A rail-link is under construction from Bangkok’s new Suvarnabhumi International airport to downtown Bangkok and due to open in 2009.
THAILAND TARGETS 1.1 MICE VISITORS BY 2009 The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has unveiled a broad-ranging business and marketing strategy designed to generate 1.1 million Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) visitors in 2009.
NEW SMOKING-BAN REMINDER TO VISITORS Visitors to Thailand are reminded that a national ban has been imposed on smoking in public areas, including pubs, restaurants, discos and market-places, both open-air and air-conditioned.
TEN THAI HOTELS AMONG FIRST WINNERS OF ASEAN GREEN AWARDS The ASEAN Tourism Forum held in Bangkok in January 2008 saw the launch of the “ASEAN Green Hotels Recognition Awards”, with 10 Thai hotels being among the award winners.
RECORD 47 GERMAN BUYERS ATTEND ASEAN TOURISM FORUM German tourism to Thailand and the entire ASEAN region is expected to boom following a record turnout of 47 German buyers at the recent ASEAN Tourism Forum in Bangkok last January.
THAILAND TO UPGRADE TOURISM PRESENCE ON THE INTERNET The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is gearing up to vastly upgrade its profile and presence on the Internet with a multi-sectoral e-marketing campaign targetted at a number of key customer segments worldwide.
CHIANG MAI LAUNCHES ITS OWN TOURISM FORUM The city of Chiang Mai last December hosted its first Tourism Forum designed to boost its share of visitor arrivals and highlight its rapidly emerging position as an economic, communications, cultural and tourism centre of Northern Thailand.
CZECH BEAUTY PAGEANT CONTESTANTS VISIT THAILAND Twelve contestants in the annual Czech beauty contest, along with organizers and accompanying media members, visited the kingdom last January as part of efforts by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to generate publicity and attract more visitors from the new member countries of the European Union.
