In 2006, the Thai nation comes together to celebrate the auspicious occasion of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 60th Anniversary or the Diamond Jubilee of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne.
This will be a year of regal splendour as Grand Celebrations are held throughout the Kingdom of Thailand to honour His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the ninth ruler of the Royal House of Chakri, the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history and the world’s longest reigning, living monarch.
While the ceremonial role of the Thai King characterised by pomp and regal splendour is the most conspicuous, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej wears many hats and is a diligent and dedicated ‘working king’ in every sense of the word.
Throughout the 60 years of his illustrious reign, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has touched the lives of the Thai people in a myriad ways. Through His Majesty's interest and life’s work in sustainable development, King Bhumibol has brought much progress and happiness to the country and the people as a whole.
Much has been written about the benevolent deeds of His Majesty as a kind and compassionate king and modern-day monarch. There has been an outpouring of endless tributes dedicated to His Majesty by his subjects and the media. These include heartfelt notes and letters, poetry, music and works of art by common folk and even children, countless odes by prime ministers, statesmen and scholars. Each is an expression of heartfelt gratitude, sincerity and love. All point to one indisputable conclusion – His Majesty has won the hearts of his people and is deeply revered, respected and loved.
Through the devotion of the Royal Family in helping and guiding the Thai nation, the Thai people’s reverence for the monarchy is unique and is expressed in a way that is so seldom seen elsewhere in the world.
To honour our beloved king, the Kingdom of Thailand is hosting a year-long Grand Festival of Events nationwide to share our magnificent culture with all our visitors.
