Bangkok, 29 September, 2016 – World Tourism Day 2016 was marked in Bangkok for the first time ever on 27 September, 2016 with a range of events that promoted the theme of “Tourism for All – Promoting Universal Accessibility”.

World Tourism Day, an initiative of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), is now in its 36th year and is aimed at promoting responsible, sustainable and accessible tourism. Many of the industry’s biggest names came to Thailand to take part in the ceremonies, workshops and press conferences that took place at the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University and the Siam Kempinski Hotel in Bangkok.

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha and H.E Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Thailand’s Minister for Tourism And Sports, both addressed the dignitaries at Siam Kempinski Hotel where discussions about tourism were held. The crowd was then entertained by performances from various Thai stars including artists and musicians with disabilities, who were there to remind everyone that the day was about promoting travel for people for whom access can be difficult.
