PHUKET, KRABI, LANTA AND KOH YAO ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS:
UPDATE FROM ASIAN TRAILS

Luzi A. Matzig, Group Managing Director of Asian Trails visited South Thailand during the weekend of January 8-9, 2005 and offers the following update:

" The Tourism Infrastructures in Phuket, Krabi, Lanta and Koh Yao are absolutely ready to receive foreign visitors. Almost 90% of all hotel rooms are undamaged and the majority of hotels and resorts functioning as before the Tsunami. Water supplies, transport, airports, government services and electricity are functioning normally, and there are no concerns for health-care in these four resorts. While cleanup works will take another two to three weeks on beach roads like on Patong Beach, other beaches on Phuket like Karon, Kata, Kata Noi and Bangtao Bay show few reminders of the tragic events of two weeks ago.

"Because of constant traumatic media reports during the past many days the general public are made to believe that most areas in South Thailand are badly damaged and not ready to receive foreign visitors when in fact a large majority of resorts remained open and - so far - are functioning normally.

"However, occupancy in most hotels is down to below 10% and if this situation goes on for any extended period of time - tens of thousands of employees in the tourism industry and related businesses will soon lose their jobs.

Therefore - the very best support to affected areas is for potential and un-decided tourists to go ahead with their travel plans to un-affected resorts thus helping the tourist industry to get back on their feet. The Thai people have suffered enough and the 'Land of Smiles' is waiting for your support!"

Below are two updated lists of properties open for business plus a status report on all major properties in South Thailand.
