ADVICE FOR FOREIGNERS TRAVELLING TO THAILAND
MINISTRY OF PUBLIC HEALTH ANNOUNCEMENT – JANUARY 14, 2005

As referred to the natural disaster caused by the Tsunami in the six southern provinces along the Andaman coastline of Thailand on December 26, 2004, which resulted in a large number of casualties, the Ministry of Public Health had foreseen subsequently untoward health problems due to this disaster, therefore, special teams of medical and paramedical personnel have been recruited and dispatched into the areas to provide intensive health care, and also continuously and closely conduct active surveillance, prevention and control of disease outbreaks. To date, there is no report of uncontrolled disease outbreaks from the affected areas.

The Ministry of Public Health would like to take this opportunity to convey this message to international organizations and foreigners, who set Thailand as their working and travel destination, that the Kingdom of Thailand is safe from after-tsunami epidemics. Travellers are able to enjoy traveling in Thailand safely.

Issue on 14 January B.E. 2548 (2005)

Professor Suchai Charoenratanakul
Deputy Minister of Public Health
Acting Minister of Public Health
