12 SACRED SITES IN 2 DAYS, 1 NIGHT

DAY 1
Arrive in Kanchanaburi. Proceed along the Baan Lin Chaang-Nong Ya route. Stop at the Kanchanaburi Allied War Cemetry by the tranquil Khwae Noi River at Khao Chong Kai.

Wat Tham Khao Pun (Tham Khao Pun Cave Temple)
Pay respect to the Reclining Buddha (Phra Buddha Saiyas)

   

Boddhisattva Banpotnimit Monastery
Admire the Sirimongkonchai stupa (Chedi Sirimongkonchai) built in the Lanna or Northern Thai style and the magnificent figurine of the Goddesss Kuan Yin sculpted out of white jade.

   
Wat Metthadham Photiyaan (Metthadham Photiyaan Temple)
A vegetarian lunch will be served at the temple. After lunch, admire the Tibetan-style architectural elements within the temple and pay homage to the Goddess Kuan Yin depicted in various postures. The ornate figurines were carved out of hardwood by skilled Chinese artisans. Pay homage and seek the blessings of other Chinese deities, particularly the revered Sam Phor Huk and Tai Suay, a deity believed to be endowed with powers to alter the course of one’s life.
   

Wat Tham Bhuddawa (Buddhawa Cave Temple)
Pay respects and seek blessings from the principle Buddha image installed in the cave. Engage in a discussion of Dhamma with the monks.

   
Follow the road leading from the Buddhawa Cave Temple back to the main entrance. Take a left and proceed along the Baan Pu Phra Kuu-Baan Kao-Tambon Singh rouote. Stop at the Baan Kao National Museum en route.
   

Baan Khao National Museum
Journey a thousand years back in time to an era when the Northern Khwae Noi basin was a thriving civilization.

   
Muang Singh Historical Park
Muang Singh Historical Park dates back to the reign of the great Khmer King, Jayavarman VII, and is the only archaeological site in Western Thailand that features Khmer influence.
   
Overnight at a riverside hotel or resort along the banks of the Khwae Noi River.

DAY 2
Proceed along Highway 323 (Sai Yok — Thong Pha Phuum)

Wat Pa Luangta Buayannasampano (Luangta Bua Forest Temple)
The forest temple has attracted international attention and gained worldwide fame for its family of full-grown tigers and tiger cubs rescued and raised in captivity by the abbot.

   
Return to Kanchanaburi city centre. Turn right in front of the Provincial Office and drive past the Soon Ratchakaan (civil administration office). Cross the bridge over the Mae Klong River and follow the Koh Samrong-Amphoe Daan Makham Toei route.
   

Wat Tham Mangkon Thong (Mangkon Thong Cave Temple)
Visitors make their way to the temple to witness an intriguing sight — Mae Chee Loi Nam, nuns floating on the surface of the water as they practise and perfect their meditation technique.

   
Head back along the same road. Turn right at the Police Kiosk at the foot of the bridge over the Mae Klong River. Drive along the scenic riverside route.
   
Wat Mano Dhammaram or Wat Nang No (Mano Dhammaram Temple)
The temple houses a beautiful Ayutthaya-style Reclining Buddha (Phra Buddha Saiyas) and is also home to a fish sanctuary. The statue of Thao Maha Brahma Prakasit, cast in resin, is one of the largest in the country.
   

Wat Tham Seua temple (Tiger Cave Temple)
The temple is home to Kanchanaburi’s biggest Buddha image in a PRATHANPORN gesture. Proceed to the summit of the mountain and enjoy a panoramic view overlooking the area north of the Mae Klong reservoir.

   

Wat Tham Khao Noi temple (Temple of the Small Mountain Cave)
The temple features a Chinese-style pagoda.

   

Break for lunch at the Rim Keuan floating restaurant, built on a bamboo raft, on the Mae Klong Reservoir

Drive along the old Saeng-Chuto route past the market in Amphoe Tha Muang district.

 
Wat Wangkanai Tayikaram temple and Tarabumbud Hot Springs
Pay respect and seek the blessings of Luang Phor Sanphet, a revered Buddhist monk during the Sukhothai period. Then relax in the Tarabumbud Hot Springs, a natural hot spring situated on the premises. The water is 42 Celsius.
   

Head for Amphoe Tha Maka district. Follow the new Saeng Chuto Road to the Tha Maka Pier intersection. Turn left into Tha Ruea-Phra Taen Road

Offer prayers and seek the blessings of Luang Phor Kham
   
Continue along the route.
   
Wat Phra Taen Dongrang Voraviharn temple
One of the many holy footprints of Lord Buddha dotted around the kingdom can also be seen at the temple. Pay homage to Phra Sangkachai, revered by Thais of Chinese descent. The statue of the Chinese monk is the biggest one found in the province.
