Wat Pho Kao Ton, Temple of the Nine Boddhi (Pho) trees
Wat Pho Kao Ton — Temple of the Nine Boddhi (Pho) trees is situated within the grounds of Kai Bang Rachan park, an arboretum and the site of the Bang Rachan Memorial.
The memorial was built as a tribute in honour of the heroes of Bang Rachan who bravely defended their village in a war in 1765, during the reign of King Ekkathat. Though the villagers were largely outnumbered by the invading troops, they fought with great courage and held their ground. It took eight attempts before the village of Bang Rachan finally fell. The viharn, an assembly hall or a rectangular building within a temple complex usually built to house Buddha images, houses the statue of Phra Acharn Thammachot, a Buddhist monk who was an outstanding leader of the Bang Rachan villagers at the time. According to local belief, individuals who have made a pilgrimage to the site will gain teamwork skills and be rewarded with organizational success. |
