Thao Suranari Memorial Fair is one of the biggest annual events that takes place in Nakhon Ratchasima province and has become popular with international visitors seeking unique local experiences in Thailand’s Northeastern Region.
The event is staged to commemorate a local legend called Thao Suranaree, locally known as Ya Mo, a famous heroine of ancient Thai history who courageously led Thai armies to victory when the nation was attacked in 1826. Her brave action has made her a popular figure from Thai history ever since.
This year, the event will take place from 23 March – 3 April, 2017 at the Thao Suranari Memorial, an important landmark of the province.
Highlights of the event include the ceremonial lighting of a flame to start the event, sports competitions, beauty contests and singing competitions, silk making and drawing competitions.
There will also be cat shows and cultural performances, exhibitions and concerts from well-known artists. It is fascinating way to enjoy a colourful event and see how Thai people celebrate their historical figures.
