Nancy Yuen and Somtow Sucharitkul, Directors
Trisdee na Patalung, Conductor
Bangkok Opera presents two complete, fully staged operas with symphony orchestra "Prima la Musica" by Antonio Salieri and "The
Impresario" by W.A. Mozart — and the directorial debut of Southeast
Asia's leading diva, Nancy Yuen.
The year is 1786 and the Emperor Franz Joseph II has just challenged
the most famous composer in the empire — Antonio Salieri — to an
operatic duel with a snotty little upstart named Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Two complete short operas are to be performed at court — and the
audience is going to vote. The two composers have both produced the
most ingenious comic masterpieces. In 1786, the applause-o-meter put
Salieri over the top. Who will win in 2008?
In a very special exclusive run at the Thailand Cultural Center Small
Hall, the Bangkok Opera presents an international cast from
three continents, brilliant young conductor Trisdee na Patalung
(called "a genius" by London's Opera magazine) and the award-winning
Siam Philharmonic Orchestra in a performance that replicates the
conditions of the original performance.
Both operas are set in the scheming, backstabbing world of 18th
century theatre, with duelling divas, grasping impresarios, crazy
composers and mad conductors. You laugh as well as thrill to the
stratospheric coloratura and vocal pyrotechnics.
