MODERN CIRCUS — PAI SAI
1 hour of musical jugglery by La compagnie Chant de Balles

La Fête introduced new circus to Bangkok in 2004. From Collectif AOC to Jean-Baptiste André, from BP Zoom to O Ultimo Momento, from 9.81 to Cie 111, the festival organizer has endeavored every year to present new performing arts.

This year, La Fête invites you to discover the ethno-musical jugglery of Chant de Balles, a company much inspired by Southeast Asia, which will juggle you from one continent to another, alternating the sounds of the khên and the bells of Béarn (south-west of France).

Paï Saï
After eight years of ethno-musical research in the mountains of Laos in direct contact with the many indigenous groups, Vincent de Lavenère opens up his universe of musical juggling, born from the meeting of traditions of Bearn and Asia. The title of the show illustrates this ceaseless to and from journey between the two traditions. Paï Saï in Lao means where are you going? whereas saï in Bearn dialect means come. With remarkable virtuosity, the artist takes us into his world of 8 balls juggling, revealing his very own nature, that of a soloist juggler who escapes into dreams... His total mastery of technique disappears behind the beauty and sensuality of images inspired by various rituals (seduction games, New Year celebrations, funeral processions) and world music.

La compagnie Chant de Balles
La compagnie Chant de Balles was founded in 1997 by Vincent de Lavenère.

Born in a family more prone to producing Armagnac and foie gras, Vincent de Lavenère discovered his passion thanks to his uncle, the abbot of Lavenère,  a revolutionary priest  and founder of pop circus. Winner of the bronze medal at the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain ( Paris) and star of the iconic Cri du caméléon choreographed by Joseph Nadj, Vincent de Lavenère started exploring musical jugglery with Chant de Balles. He travels with his wife Veronique (who specializes in ethnic music from Southeast Asia), and since 1992 has been involved in projects for cultural exchange, teaching, creation and performance of circus shows in Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia and particularly Laos.
