CELEBRATING THE TRADITIONAL CULTURE OF THE SEASIDE RESORT OF PATTAYA AND CHON BURI:
A Tribute to the King
June 26 – 28, 2010
Along the Central Pattaya beachfront from Soi 4 – 6/09.00 hrs onwards

While the City of Pattaya is more frequently associated with contemporary events, during June 26 – 28, the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Pattaya office jointly with the provincial authorities will be presenting a special cultural showcase to highlight the province’s colourful local culture. This reflects an effort by the provincial authorities and the local community to preserve the local culture and traditions and folk wisdom.

The event, which will be staged along the Central Pattaya beachfront from Soi 4 to Soi 6 from 09.00 a.m. onwards, will include highlights such as cultural processions, a light-and-sound presentation, exhibitions, models of the various types of homes found throughout Chon Buri province, live demonstrations of light snacks and Thai desserts, such as such as khao kriab paak maw — a delicious traditional Thai-style appetizer with a savoury minced meat and chopped peanut filling wrapped in steamed wafer-thin rice flour, and khao maow, green rice flakes made by pounding young unmilled unripe rice grains. These are then tossed with other ingredients such as grated coconut.

There will also be live performances of folk dances, popular folk entertainment and games, including the ram wong circle dance, the lively klong yao long drum dance, lam tat folk drama, Thai music and other forms of Thai performing arts.

  IMPORTANT
Event dates and programme details may be subject to change.
Many of the festivals and events listed on Thailand's official calendar of annual events are traditional Buddhist or folk festivals, the date of which is either determined by the Buddhist lunar calendar and waxing and waning moon. These are not staged events. The festivals reflect the rhythm of life in rural Thai villages and local traditions as observed in times past.
