SAMUI ISLAND HOLDS 1st SAMUI ISLAND MARATHON PRINCESS CUP 2010

Bangkok Airways, in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Samui Municipal and the Tourism Association of Koh Samui, launch the first “Samui Island Marathon 2010” which will be held in Samui on 19 September 2010, to compete for HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Cup and the total prize worth over 3 million baht — the highest record in the history of Thai marathons.

The Samui Island Marathon 2010 is the first marathon ever to be organized on the island. The objectives of this marathon are to support the TAT’s tourism campaign, to encourage Thais to travel more within the country and also to attract more regional tourists to travel to Thailand. Samui Island, known as one of the most beautiful islands in the world, is the key selling point of the event.

The race will start off on Saturday morning, 19 September 2010, with the starting and finishing line at Nathon pier. Participants will take route 4169, Lippa Yai Crossroad to the Lippa Noi intersection to the Ban Sakes intersection then turn around at Ban Hua Thanon and follow route 4169 back to Nathon Pier.

The marathon is divided into 4 competition categories. These are:
Full Marathon (42.19 km.) subdivided to 18–29 years old (male/female), 30–39 years old (male/female), 40-49 years old (male/female), 50-59 years old (male), 50 years and above (female) and 60 years and above (male)
Half Marathon (21.100 km.) subdivided to 16-19 years old (male/female), 30-39 years old (male/female), 40-49 years old (male/female), 50-59 years old (male/female), and 60 years old and above (male/female)
Quarter Marathon (10.550 km.) subdivided to 15-19 years (male/female), 20-29 years old (male/female), 30-39 years old (male/female), 40-49 years old (male/female), 50 – 59 years old and 60 years old and above (male/female) and
Mini Marathon (no admission fee) for Samui residence students age between 12 – 14 years old (2 km.)

The admission fees for the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and Quarter Marathon from now until 31 August 2010 are 500, 400 and 300 baht respectively. Applications submitted during 1-17 September 2010, the fee will be 700, 500 and 300 baht respectively. Apply on 18 September 2010; the admission fee will be 800, 600 and 300 Baht respectively. The Full-Marathon runner will receive a complimentary t-shirt and a cap. For Half-Marathon and Quarter-Marathon, the runner will receive a complimentary t-shirt.
