Introducing
THAI DESIGNERS

AB-Normal
Thaweesak Samanmit said, “The concept behind this collection is ‘Feminine and Masculine’, a combination of sweetness and strength, romantic and classic. The focus of the collection is simple classic, with small accents for interest. Fabrics have been chosen for their comfort, such as chiffon and cotton used in a contemporary way.

Anurak
Anurak Tungsumboon said, “We should present fashions that are contemporary, yet reflect an Asian essence. This is done by mixing different fabrics, from local handwoven textiles, Thai silk, muslin, linen, gabardine, cotton, chiffon, and Thai prints. The emphasis is on the contemporary design. I think the Bangkok Fashion Week is a good idea; it allows Thai designers to showcase their work, and opens up an opportunity for younger designers to become recognised as well.”

Boudoir
Disaya Prakobsantisukh said, “The concept behind this collection is ‘Tea Party at Alice’s’. It is inspired by my feelings as I sat having tea and thought back to my childhood when I played tea party with my friends, or with my dolls. The collection emphasises the little details. There are outfits that go with lingerie, as well as lingerie that enhance outerwear. Both outerwear and lingerie are very feminine; cute yet sexy, inside and out. Fabrics range from stretch lycra, chiffon and cotton decorated with crystals.” With regard to the Bangkok Fashion Week, she said, “I think the project is trying to promote Thai brands and Thai designers, and encourages them to produce and develop their work.”

Fly Now
Chamnan Pakdeesuk, renowned designer from Fly Now said “Elegance is the concept of this collection. The total design strongly kept up with luxurious look, which is different from the previous designs. Drama concept is tone down as balloon sleeve will fade from the catwalk. This collection will emphasis on the key words “Simply and Elegance”, not focus on accessories. The theme colour will be natural tan, burgundies red, aubergine purple. I personally appreciate with the Bangkok Fashion Week project. that will be upto international standard.”

Grey by Greyhound
Bhanu Inkawat leads the Grey by Greyhound design team comprising Pattree Bhakdibutr and Kritsada Phakawatsuntorn to present their Spring/Summer 2006 collection. “The collection is inspired by uniforms worn by terrorists, both men and women or even children, all of whom are imbued with a special strength of purpose. They lead their lives underground, or hide in deep jungles, and are ready to come out and fight any time they are cornered. The outfits are in the style of Street Wear combining military jackets worn with any style trousers. Colours are muted for camouflage purposes. Our designers have updated the look for a more contemporary style. Silver and gold medals or gun insignias have been changed to graphic designs that symbolise peace”. On the subject of the Bangkok Fashion Week, he added, “I am totally in favour of the project, and I’m glad to have been part of the force behind the event. If the effort is sustained, it will help to expand the market and the industry in the long term. This in turn will be an advantage to the Thai fashion industry. We will have an event to enhance our image and help promote our products in the world market.”

Good Mixer
Chaichon Savantrat said, “The collection is in the Ready to Wear style, with bright and colourful prints inspired by the festive atmosphere of the temple fair. For example, I have incorporated a print from the snake kite which other people might overlook. The focus is the combination of Thai culture and western design in a look that is totally modern.”

Issue
Roj Singhakul said, “This collection speaks to the contemporary group of people who enjoy travelling, shopping and partying. They read dharma books, but are not too strict in their religious habits. I was inspired by a recent trip cruising down the Nile in Egypt, enjoying the beauty of the lotus motifs on the pillars at Idfu and in Alexandria. Fabrics include a lot of crochet work, quality cotton, linen, silk and chiffon. Colours are white, blue, pink, pastels. “I think the Bangkok Fashion Week is a good project and should be supported and sustained for the highest benefit.”

Head Quarter
Chai Jeam-amornrat, Patarasarun Sriluansoi and Jirat Subpisankul each created individual concepts and put them together for the collection. Chai Jeam-amornrat is mainly inspired by colours and the beautiful scenery of the “Wonderland”. The main characteristic of the collection is the perfect match of colours, adding gimmick with printed fabric and fluorescent sparkling colour. Patarasarun, designer for Realistic situation for Head Quarter, said, “I was inspired by travellers, and the outfits are semi-casual, but reflect the urban lifestyle. The highlight is the Street Wear in graphic prints and deconstructed forms”. Jirat, designer for Sunshine brand, said, “My collection follows the concept of Rock Music Ice Cream Colours, inspired by the cover of the CD ‘Aladdin Sane’ by David Bowie. Tops are in the style of Rock Chic, but retain the Street Wear look. Women’s outfits have a masculine accent through the use of men’s jackets or neckties to accentuate chic prints.”

Legend
Sakchai Luechasuntorn said, “The concept of the collection is ‘Around the world’, inspired by travel. It brings together elements of various national costumes, mixed with the Khao Sarn look. The focus of the collection is on the use of colours of national flags and ethnic art from different countries. Fabrics include leather, chiffon, camouflage prints accessorised with hippy jewellery. “I think the Bangkok Fashion Week is a good start. It helps promote Thai fashions to the world market, and also revitalises the local fashion industry.”

Medium Rare
Prapakas Angsusingh from Medium Rare reveals the collection “The collection theme is “Miss of Black Rose” which is inspired by the mysterious beauty of black colour perfectly match with the strong colours. Each single detail carefully blend to reflect Thai essence. The challenge is to use paper as one among other materials for this collection. Bangkok Fashion Week project is very beneficial for Thai fashion industry

Nagara
Veteran designer Nagara Sambandaraksa described his “White Collection” saying, “It was inspired by the first step taken by the Bangkok Fashion Week project. It’s pure and clean and full of power that will propel it into the future. The style is still pure Nagara; a combination of Oriental looks adapted to a contemporary style. The collection brings together various silks; Thai, Indian, Chinese and Italian. Every outfit is white.

With regard to the Bangkok Fashion Week, I’m glad that the government recognises the potential and talent of Thai designers, and is taking an active interest in promoting the fashion industry in a serious way. It’s the first step for Thai designers to proceed towards the world stage.”

Kit-Ti’s Jewelry
Kitti Manoonphol said, “My collection is an artist handmade collection under the concept ‘Contemporary Ethnic Arts’. Each piece is unique, made from beads from different countries mixed with items used in daily life.” The fact that Thailand is holding a fashion event to showcase Thai designers is definitely a way to present Bangkok as a world fashion centre. I support the project to allows buyers from all over the world to buy products from Thai designers. This will help the entire cycle of the fashion industry to move forwards.”

Kloset
Mollika Ruengkrittiya said, “Kloset is underlining its trademark look with the Country Chic style of the modern bohemian. Colours bring back memories of a girl’s childhood. The style brings together the bohemian look with men’s jackets for a more trendy and active look. The look was inspired by the story ‘Peter Pan’, reinterpreted as a childhood memory, filled with fun and imagination. The focus of the collection is the use of the structure of boys’ and girls’ clothes adapted to suit the changing times. Fabrics used include muslin and chiffon. Another feature of the collection is the country style use of embroidery, both by hand and machine, as well as patchwork to complete the country look.“Actually Thais are talented fashion designers, but lack media support and promotion. Bangkok Fashion Week allows these designers an opportunity to show their work locally and especially overseas, to make them aware that Thailand is not simply a manufacturing country, but possesses design skills equal to any other country.”

Mae Fah Luang
Kris Yensudchai said, “The collection combines nature with technology. It was inspired by mixing hilltribe concepts with the urban look. The outstanding feature is the use of lycra and silk together, with emphasis on metallic colours.“I would like to thank the government for supporting Thai designers by organising this event.”

Metta
Metta Tantisajjatham said, “My Spring/Summer collection comes under the concept ‘Exotic Flowers’. I have incorporated photos of leaves and flowers taken by Sakchai Guy, noted photographer and editor of Lips magazine, into the outfits in various forms. Most importantly, I have used natural fabrics: silk, linen, cotton, and updated them with inkjet technology. “Bangkok Fashion Week is a good idea since it helps the Thai fashion industry grow and develop, with the opportunity for more efficient and effective marketing and promotion.”

Muse
Chaichon Savantrat, designer of Muse by Good Mixer, said, “The main idea of the collection is to create a new textile by overlapping threads to create a fabric similar to the way caterpillars make a cocoon. This is made in the image of a butterfly. This is a new technique never used before because it is so labour intensive. Summer colours are used. “I would like to see Bangkok Fashion Week take place every season because it encourages Thai designers to increase their potential that will in turn push Thailand to become the hub of fashion in the near future.”

S318
Kornkanok Sanitwong na Ayuttaya said, “The collection presents a mix and match idea that gives a special meaning to clothing. It is inspired by mixing the romantic and classic look in an artistic way, removing details to enhance simplicity for a more contemporary appeal. 70% of the collection is for women, and features accents done by hand such as embroidery, patchwork, and intricate needlework. Light fabrics such as chiffon, Thai textiles and lace are combined with heavy fabrics ranging from warm pastel colours to mysterious dark colours.

“The Bangkok Fashion Week is a good initiative; at least it helps the brand owner to upgrade his products and increase production. It’s the first of a long process.”

Senada
Chanita Preechawitayakul said, “The Romantic Prep Senada Theory Spring Summer 2005 collection is inspired by English school uniforms, from blazers and jackets to pleated skirts, shirts, suits, trousers in the traditional classic style. These have been enhanced with lace and corsets. We emphasise traditional classic patterns on modern fabrics, with cutting edge tailoring as well as hand embroidery, smocking, and lacework. Colours are muted and light, like mural decorations of the 1880s, with ecru, mauve grey, dusty pink, vanilla cream, misty green as well as navy. Prints are also eastern in design.’ The Bangkok Fashion Week is a good start that will kindle the flame of enthusiasm among the fashion industry to improve themselves to world standard, like the fashion shows in Milan or New York.”

Tango
Chaiyose Pechdasada said, “I have incorporated the fashions of the 90s that are truly wearable into the concept ‘Victorian and punk’. It’s glamorous, yet playful with contrasting textures for a bit of conflict, for example, I’ve mixed chains and studs of the punk look and mixed them with beads and Victorian flowers. The textures and colours are also contrasting with matt leather and shiny metal, or metallic leather mixed with diamonds, beads, ribbons and chains for a very colourful collection.”

Tube
Saksit Pisalasupongs and Pisit Chongnarangsun said, “The Tube collection follows the concept ‘Colours of Bangkok’. Colours are vibrant, using prints and Thai silk.“It’s a good opportunity for Thailand to hold this event of an international standard. It is truly a showcase of Thai designs.”

Zenith
Adisak Rojsiriphan said, “The Zenith in the blues collection brings together blue jeans and denim as the main focus of each outfit, in a look that is at once modern and classic. Denim will undergo a tailored look. Mix and match will remain the Zenith identity, through a combination of different prints, colours, textures and fabrics.”
