BANGKOK CHINATOWN FESTIVAL 2005
February 9-10, 2005

Bangkok's Yawaraj district or 'Chinatown', Bangkok's legendary Thai-Chinese community celebrates the arrival of the "Year of the Rooster" during February 9-10, 2005 by hosting grand celebration to pay tribute the the mythical Golden Dragon -- the guardian spirit that has watched over Yawaraj for the last 222 years since its foundng, and to whom residents of the community believe they owe their good fortune, wealth and prosperity. The Golden Dragon is thus accorded an exalted status in ritual, as well as in everyday life.

Festival highlights include:
"Enter The Golden Dragon" - a light-and-sound, and multimedia presentation presented as a tribute to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's fiftieth birthday anniversary. Visitors to the festival are invited to express their birthday greetings and heart-felt congratulations to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn by writing their birthday messages in a guest book placed at the reception counter.
Impressive and colourful on-stage performances feature the best in classical Chinese theatrical arts with performers and artists performing dances, classical music, Chinese traditional opera and acrobatic shows seen outside of China

In Thai-Chinese families, age-old sacred rituals are still observed, and customs and traditions are passed down from generation to generation. This rich legacy is nurtured with great diligence. Many of these aspects are reflected in the colourful and boisterous aspects of the Chinese New Year festivities.
