The Embassy of France, in conjunction with The James H. W. Thompson Foundation, is delighted to announce that for the first time, an art exhibition featuring Haute Couture will be presented at the Jim Thompson Center for the Arts. The exhibition, entitled Christian Lacroix Dialogues! will focus on 17 years of work by one of France’s most outstanding fashion designers and will take place from October 20, 2005 until January 5, 2006. In addition to a selection of 63 dresses and accessories by Christian Lacroix, the installation will include photographs, videos, sculptures and sound tracks created by 15 contemporary artists taking part in the project.

The exhibition is curated by Yves Sabourin, who worked directly with Christian Lacroix to create the installation and wrote the catalogue. Dialogues! which first went on display at the Fine Art and Lace Museum of the city of Alençon in France, has been launched on a world tour which will include China, Brazil and Belgium in addition to Thailand.

“Christian Lacroix is undoubtedly one of the most creative and inspired fashion designers living today. He represents at its best the spirit of the French fashion, celebrated around the world. We are proud to bring to Bangkok this outstanding exhibition giving a comprehensive presentation of his work and hope to contribute to the promising development of fashion creation in Thailand.” Laurent Aublin, Ambassador of France in Thailand

Lacroix himself could not have imagined a better framework to discuss and interact with his work than through The James H. W. Thompson Foundation. As a designer, Lacroix has always been interested in every aspect of art. Moreover, his Haute Couture creations are real pieces of art. In this exhibition 63 of his unique fashion designs and accessories will be presented along with works by well-known contemporary artists including French artist Annette Messager, who was awarded the “Golden Lion” at this year’s International Biennale of Venice. The exhibition intends to create a dialogue between different aspects of Christian Lacroix’s work and embodies, beyond fashion and garment, a world of inspiration on its own.

“This event is much more than a fashion exhibition. I want to present inspirations and a universe in harmony with space.” Christian Lacroix says.

“This is a display where everything is mixed together, where inspiration and influences are released, where distance allows to understand the creation process.” Yves Sabourin, Curater of the exhibition

This exhibition is organized with collaboration between The James H. W. Thomson Foundation, the Embassy of France, the French Association for Artistic Actions (AFAA- French Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in Paris, the Alliance Française in Bangkok, LIPS Magazine and Glam Acid Co., LTD. exclusive distributor of Christian Lacroix in Bangkok. It benefits from the support of AIR FRANCE.
