River Kwai Bridge Week
Date: 28 November-9 December 2012
Venue: River Kwai Bridge, Mueang District, Kanchanaburi
This event takes you back to the time of World War II through the River Kwai Bridge built by Allied prisoners-of-war. This bridge was the part of the ‘Death Railway’ that spanned the River Kwai connecting Thailand and Myanmar, costing thousands of lives of prisoners and local labourers supervised by Japanese troops. Organised to commemorate those who died while building the bridge, this event features a remembrance ceremony held at the Allied War Cemetery, light and sound presentations, cultural performances, and historical displays and exhibitions.
Highlight: Go back in time to World War II by getting on the vintage train and watch the light and sound re-enactment of the construction of the bridge.
