Bangkok, Thailand, March 29, 2005 -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to inform the media, tour operators, travel agents and all the travelling public that the Kingdom of Thailand has not been affected by the earthquake off the island of Sumatra, Indonesia, on 28 March 2005. There has also been no indication of a Tsunami within the region.
All of Thailand’s beach destinations on both the Andaman coast and the Gulf of Thailand are conducting business as usual.
Thailand is well prepared in all aspects, as the Royal Thai Government has implemented the necessary measures for visitors to our kingdom to have a safe and secure holiday. Just in case it becomes necessary, the Meteorological Department informed the relevant authorities how to initiate evacuation procedures for the safety of the people. Some precautionary evacuations were carried out but the situation has since returned to normal.
The TAT Head Office in Thailand is keeping all its overseas and local offices updated with the latest information to be passed on to the media and travel agents for onward conveyance to the travelling public.
