BEST IN THE WORLD
In the search for the "World's Best", the New York-based Travel + Leisure Magazine, one of the world's most prominent travel magazines with a readership of about 950,000 per issue invited select subscribers to participate in the World's Best Awards Reader's Poll in which participants were asked to name their favourite cities, islands, hotels, tour operators, airlines, cruise lines and car rental agencies. Data provided by nearly 200,000 respondents was tallied by Harris Interactive, a research group. The results provide a definitive guide to the very best in travel based on the evaluations from the most discerning travellers.

Bangkok was named the Best Tourism City in Asia and in the Top 3 World's Best Cities. The Peninsula Bangkok was named the "World's Best Hotel."

Cities were rated according to the following characteristics - sights, culture/arts, restaurants/food, people, shopping, and value. While hotels were rated in terms of rooms/facilities, location, service, restaurants/food, value, with an optional criteria- for business, and for families.

The winners of the 2003 World's Best Awards were honoured at a presentation ceremony luncheon held at the Four Seasons restaurant in New York City and at a celebratory party.

HOTELS IN THAILAND IN THE TOP-100 IN THE WORLD
The Peninsula Bangkok, ranked No. 2 World's Best Hotel in the 2002 moves into the top spot this year.

Travel + Leisure notes that "the Thai capital is no stranger to hotels in the No. 1 position: since we began our survey, no property has dominated like the Oriental, Bangkok, which readers rated the best hotel in the world a record three times (1996, 1999, and 2000)."

Seven other hotels in Thailand made the "Top 100 Hotels" list with The Oriental Bangkok in the Top 10 with a score of 88.74, Amanpuri Phuket ranking 12th with a score of 88.34, The Regent Chiang Mai Resort & Spa scoring 86.71, The Regent Bangkok 85.90, the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers Bangkok 83.36, and the Shangri-la Bangkok 83.11.

READER SURVEY METHODOLOGY
A questionnaire developed by the editors of Travel + Leisure in association with NFO Plog Research was made available to Travel + Leisure subscribers at www.tlworldsbest.com during the first quarter of 2003. Respondents were asked to rate hotels, islands, and airlines of 5 characteristics; spas and hotel spas on 4 characteristics; and cities, cruise lines and tour operators on 6 characteristics. Respondents reported where they had travelled worldwide and how, and rated only the attributes that were relevant to their recent travel experiences. The scores are indexed averages of responses concerning applicable characteristics.
