On August 30, Thai wildlife enforcement officers met with their Cambodian counterparts to discuss ways to combat illegal trade in slow lorises. The talks were held during a one-day seminar to discuss ways to strengthen law and enforcement efforts to save this unique nocturnal Southeast Asia primate. Officers from Cambodia’s Forestery Department and Customs attended the seminar. PeunPa staff also joined the discussion to provide support for the Thai wildlife crime Task Force established under ASEAN-WEN. The seminar was sponsored and co-organized by Care for the Wild.
The seminar included a lecture from one of the world’s foremost experts in slow loris biology. Dr Anna Nekaris of Oxford Brookes Universtiy spoke about detecting, handling and treating slow lorises to help the enforcement officers better care for animals rescued from the illegal trade.
