Ernest Goh
A documentarian and a portraitist, Ernest Goh’s passion for photography comes from the joy of rediscovering common things in life. After winning the Singapore Press Holdings Arts Scholarship in 1998, he went on to win numerous other awards, including the Phillips Design Excellence Award in 1999.

He then represented Singapore at the renowned Missouri Photo Workshop and the Asia-Europe Forum for Young Photographers organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation and World Press Photo in 2003 in Amsterdam.

In 1999, he was commissioned by the Singapore Disability Sports Council to work on Laughter In The Rain, a book documenting the history and reality of sports for the disabled in Singapore. In 2003, at the height of the SARS outbreak, Goh was invited by SingHealth to document the disease from inside the hospitals: the pictures were published in a book titled Beyond Mask. Goh also spent weeks documenting the aftermath in post-tsunami Aceh, Indonesia for Mercy Relief, a Singapore NGO. Images from this pro bono project have been used to raise more funds to aid Aceh’s rebuilding efforts.

In May 2006, Goh became the first artist-in-residence at Objectifs, an independent photography and film school in Singapore. Most recently, he was one of the 12 top photographers selected by the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (Singapore) to be featured in a book for the IMF/World Bank meeting in September 2006.

Previously employed as a staff photographer for The Straits Times, Goh is now an independent photographer covering both commercial and editorial projects in Asia.

Gerhard Jörén
Born and raised in Sweden, Gerhard Jörén moved to New York in 1982, where he launched a career as an editorial and corporate photographer. In 1987, drawn by the sights and colours of Asia, he moved to Hong Kong.

From 2001 to 2005, he was based in Bangkok, where he worked for a host of international publications and a number of major corporate clients, with assignments ranging from a brothel in Manila, to coal mining in Borneo and Giorgio Armani in Shanghai. Among his most recent photographic projects was the relaunching of Bumrungrad Hospital, one of the region’s leading hospitals. Jörén is now based in Hong Kong.

Gilles Sabrié
Gilles Sabrié is a freelance photographer based in Beijing, China. After years spent working in television, he switched careers to embrace his passion — documentary photography. Since then, he has focused on news and social issues in China. In particular, he spent months documenting the life of China’s migrant workers as well as the fate of the inhabitants of the Three Gorges area. Sabrié’s images have been featured in numerous publications including Newsweek, TIME, US News, The New York Times, The Herald Tribune, L’Express, Focus, Le Point and more.

Greg Gorman
Greg Gorman’s work documents that peculiar obsession of the 20th century — celebrity. His photography is timeless and not confined to has-beens, hot properties and wannabes. Each shot gives a picture of human nature in its infinite range. Each picture is also a testament to the individual’s character. ‘For me a photograph is most successful when it doesn’t answer all the questions,’ says Gorman, ‘and it leaves something to be desired.’

For over two decades, Gorman has continued to master the art of photography. From personality portraits and advertising campaigns to magazine layouts and fine art work, he has developed and showcased a discriminating and unique style in his profession.

Born in 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri, Gorman attended the University of Kansas from 1967–1969 with a major in photojournalism. He completed his studies at the University of Southern California, graduating with a master of fine arts degree in cinematography in 1972.

He currently resides in Los Angeles and Mendocino, California.

Gueorgui Pinkhassov
Gueorgui Pinkhassov’s interest in photography began when he was in school. While at VGIK in Moscow, he studied cinematography, and between 1971 and 1980, he worked for the studio Mosfilm as a cameraman. He always made time, however, for personal creative work and photographic research.

In 1978, Pinkhassov joined the Moscow Union of Graphic Arts, which gave him the status needed to participate freely in exhibitions. In 1985, he moved to Paris and, three years later, joined Magnum Photos, becoming a member in 1994.

Magazines have commissioned various reports which allow him to see the world from different angles. However, it is not events alone which interest him, but using photographic creativity to perfect his work, thus reinforcing the creative spirit of the Magnum founders.
