South Korea’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) organises an annual travel industry award competition that is managed by the Korea Association of Travel Agents (KATA).

In 2005, three winning outbound packages promoted by two Korean tour operators – Hana Tour and Kaya Tour – received recognition awards for excellent outbound travel packages to Thailand. Travel products were rated based on the following criteria: quality, pricing, product appeal, uniqueness and customer satisfaction.

Hana Tour won the Excellent Travel Packages Award featuring Phuket/Phi Phi and Diamond Cliff Resort & Spa and Bangkok-Pattaya-Angkor Wat travel packages and Kaya Tour is winner of the Excellent Honeymoon Package Award featuring the Hua Hin Hilton.

Thailand is the only destination in Southeast Asia to have received the Korean travel industry awards for outbound travel packages.

Royal Thai Ambassador to South Korea, His Excellency Mr. Vasin Teeravechyan, presided at a special ceremony organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Seoul office to honour Hana Tour and Kaya Tour for their exceptional achievement and to express heartfelt appreciation for their contribution to Thai tourism.

Following the presentation ceremony, TAT Seoul conducted a briefing on Thailand Grand Invitation and extended an invitation to Korean travellers to visit Thailand in 2006. The target set for visitor arrivals to Thailand from Korea in 2006 is 945,000 visitors.

In 2006, 87 tour operators will be offering Korean travellers a selection of 931 outbound packages. Results will be monitored throughout 2006.
