SWEDISH ‘GRAND TRAVEL AWARD’ FOR ‘THE WORLD’S BEST TOURIST COUNTRY’

The Swedish travel publication, Travel News, recently presented the annual Grand Travel Award — the equivalent of the travel and tourism industry’s ‘Oscars’ — for the fourteenth consecutive year. This year’s award presentation ceremony was held on March 6.

Winners in each of the travel-related categories are selected by a travel trade jury comprising 500 members of the Swedish travel and tourism industry. The awards are presented in several categories with scores allocated according to a scale of 1-6, with 1 being the lowest score and 6 is the highest.

In the “World’s Best Tourist Country” category, Thailand ranked first with a score of 5.42 out of the total score of 6, making this the fourth consecutive year that Thailand has won the Swedish Grand Travel Award.

South Africa with a score of 4.84 ranked second, followed by Italy with a score of 4.74.

TAT’s Stockholm office was also among the star performers in the “Foreign Tourist Office” category. TAT Stockholm was awarded a score of 4.43 and ranked third.

The British Tourist Authority, led with a score of 4.76, followed by the Denmark Tourist Office with 4.72.

H.E. Ambassador of Thailand to Stockholm, Mr. Apichart Chinwanno, accepted the award on behalf of the Kingdom of Thailand. The prestigious award presentation ceremony attended by 700 guests.

The Travel News Grand Travel Awards Committee comprises members of the publication’s editorial team and four representatives from the Swedish travel and tourism industry. The Award Committee submits its nominations for consideration by the 500 members of the Swedish travel and tourism industry; each allocates a score to the countries proposed by the Award Committee.
