2007 IRISH TRAVEL TRADE NEWS (ITTN) AWARDS:
BEST ASIA/AUSTRALASIA DESTINATION

The Tourism Authority of Thailand London (TAT) is proud to announce their recent success at the Irish Travel Trade News (ITTN) Awards held in Dublin, Ireland on 24th January 2007.

Abigail Silver (TAT Marketing and PR Manager) and fellow colleagues celebrated Thailand’s win for ‘Best Asia/Australasia Destination’ ahead of four other nominees, including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia. Commenting on the award, Tanes Petsuwan (Director of TAT London) expressed his delight ‘this is fantastic recognition for Thailand and I would like to extend my thanks to the Irish travel trade, without their support this would not have been possible’. Thailand continues to grow as a popular tourist destination, with over a 10% increase in tourist arrivals from the UK and Ireland during January-April 2006 (total of 259,153). Petsuwan further noted ‘Ireland is a fast growing market with some 50,000 Irish visitors annually’.

The award ceremony was held in Dublin city centre and well attended by over 650 key UK and Irish travel and tourism contacts. In total twenty six categories were awarded throughout the evening which was kindly supported by Ernst & Young, Las Vegas and Jurys Doyle Hotels. Votes for the awards were received by Irish travel and tourism industry professionals and the prizes were presented by Michael Flood (Editor of ITTN) and the Ministry of State at the Department of Transport in Dublin.

The ITTN awards began 15 years ago, during this time Thailand has received several nominations and has since scooped two prestigious awards including ‘Best Long Haul Destination’ in 2002 also.

The Irish Travel Trade News (ITTN) is a monthly trade publication, distributed throughout Ireland, with a readership of over 2,000 including tour operators, travel agents, air and sea operators, hoteliers and car hire companies.
