Thailand once again named Best Wedding Destination by Travel + Leisure India

Bangkok, 1 December, 2016 – Thailand has again been voted as the Best Wedding Destination by readers of the renowned publication Travel + Leisure India and South Asia. This marks the fifth year in a row that Thailand has received this prestigious award.

The Best Wedding Destination is chosen via a readers’ poll in the print and online versions of Travel + Leisure India and South Asia. Final decisions are also based on expert opinion.

Thailand’s top ranking reflects the huge popularity of Thailand for Indian wedding planners and couples seeking a romantic destination.

The award was presented on 17 November, 2016, at the Shangri-La hotel in New Delhi.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said, “The fact that Thailand has now won this award for the fifth year running, shows how attractive the kingdom is to couples seeking an amazing and romantic wedding venue.

“Thailand’s wedding industry and hotels are experienced in hosting events of all sizes and meeting the unique needs and desires of couples wanting a romantic day. What’s more, our, luxurious accommodation and attractions ensure weddings will be remembered forever,” he added.

According to the TAT New Delhi Office, each year around 400 Indian weddings are held in Thailand at various locations; such as, Bangkok, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Rayong, Phuket, Krabi, Khao Lak and Chiang Mai. Thailand is also a favourite among Indian visitors for celebrations such as anniversaries, birthdays, family re-union, bachelors and bachelorette trips.

So far in 2016, Thailand has welcomed a total of 895,880 travellers from India, an increase of 13.40 per cent over the previous year. The average length of stay of Indian tourists is 8 days and average spending per person per day is 5,645 Baht.

Thailand has long been a popular wedding venue for couples from all over the world and from 2-4 May, 2017 Phuket will host the 4th Annual Destination Wedding Planners Congress 2017 (DWP Congress 2017). TAT expects to attract about 450 people from across Asia, Africa, the Americas, Australasia and Europe to attend this influential event.

“Thai wedding planners are experienced and adaptable and extra atmosphere is ensured by a charming backdrop and Thailand’s endearing hospitality.
