METHODOLOGY
Results are based on reader evaluations collected in the 2004 World's Best Awards survey. Scores are an indexed average of responses concerning applicable characteristics.
For each characteristic, respondents were asked to rate a spa establishment on a scale of 1 to 5, where a score of "5" means excellent and "1" means poor.
Overall scores for destination spas represent an average rating based on five characteristics: accommodations/ambience, treatments, service, food, and value.
Overall scores for resort and hotel spas represent an average rating based on four characteristics:
- Ambience
- Treatments
- Service
- Value
|
Some spas (those that have their own accommodations but are also affiliated with full-service resorts) were rated in both the destination-spa and resort-spa categories; these spas have different scores for each category.

JW MARRIOTT PHUKET RESORT & SPA
VOTED "BEST HOTEL SPA IN ASIA"
Plus Second Placing in World's Top 25 Category
At Condé Nast Traveller Magazine's Awards in London
JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa received Condé Nast Traveller Magazine’s Inaugural Readers’ Spa Award for the “Best Hotel Spa in Asia” at a ceremony held in London last week.
In addition, the resort’s Mandara Spa was awarded second place in “The World’s Top 25” category. Readers were asked to nominate their favorite spas in various categories including Urban Day Spas, Hotel Spas, Spa Retreats and Medical/Thermal Spas.
The spa facilities at JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa are operated by Mandara Spa Asia; the largest operator of resort garden spas in the region.
Each category was rated according to a number of criteria, including service (for which Asia scored highest), accommodation, amenities, body treatments, décor and ambience. The results were tabulated to reveal the winners in each category, with the highest scorers ranked as the world’s top 25.
Eighty percent of the resort’s guests use the Spa with a high percentage of guests returning for multiple treatments during their stay. |
