Pattaya City has introduced a new air-conditioned bus service with scheduled stops along designated routes. Designed to help tourists get around the resort city, the Pattaya beach bus service consists of three lines - Green, Red and Yellow. These cover the main streets of Pattaya, Naklua and Jomtien.

Each line has been assigned a different colour to make it easier for passengers to identify the routes. Bus stops are also colour coded and numbered so passengers know where to board and disembark.

The modern microbuses seat thirty people in air-conditioned comfort and literally ‘embody’ Pattaya's image as a vibrant, fresh-and-fun leisure destination. The bus bodies sport bright and breezy designs.

Each line has its own fixed clockwise and counter-clockwise routes, making a total of six routes, served by three buses per route from 6.00 am to 2.00 am the following day.

The service is being operated by Pattaya Beach Bus Co. Ltd., in a joint venture with the state-run Office of SME Promotion.

The Green Line clockwise route was launched in August 2005. According to Pattaya Beach Bus Co. Ltd., the counter-clockwise route for the Green Line will be launched in October 2005. Other routes will be added gradually in the run-up to December 2005, when the full service will be launched.

All routes start out from Big C supermarket, Sukhumvit Road, Pattaya.

A 30-baht one-way ticket can be used on any of the routes. Visitors will also be able to purchase one-day passes at 90 baht, three-day passes at 180 baht, and one-month passes for 900 baht. Passes will be available from mid-October at most hotels and major supermarkets (Tesco Lotua, Carrefour, Big C). Tourists can use the passes as many times as they like during their validity, making them very cost effective with frequent use."

Pattaya Beach Bus Co. Ltd believes that the new service provides an inexpensive way for tourists and visitors to discover more of Pattaya. The company plans to produce tourist maps with attractions nearby each bus stop marked. This will help travellers plan their own day trips.

Future plans include the addition of facilities for wheelchairs to assist handicapped persons, and the introduction of open-deck tourist buses for sightseeing in 2006.
