TAT update: Thailand imposes night-time curfew from 3 April, 2020, until further notice

Bangkok, 02 April, 2020, at 18.30 Hrs. – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide the latest update that Thailand has imposed a nationwide night-time curfew to contain the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a televised address to the nation, Thai Prime Minister, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, has announced the 22.00 – 04.00 Hrs. curfew, effective from tomorrow, 3 April, 2020, until further notice, with the exception for medical and banking personnel, transportation of medical supplies and goods, people who work night shifts, transportation of people to the designated quarantine areas, and people who travel to and from the airport – all of whom must provide proof of their journey.

The Prime Minister noted that in areas where night-time restrictions are already in place and are stricter than this announcement, the existing restrictions remain valid; such as, Phuket’s night-time restriction starts from 20.00 Hrs.

The six-hour nationwide night-time curfew is imposed under the state of emergency, which came into effect on 26 March, 2020, along with a raft of directives including restrictions for access to risk areas; closure of risk areas; closure of entry/access points (land, sea and air) to the country; restrictions on hoarding of consumer items, and ensuring of price controls on items; restrictions on large gatherings; restrictions on the deliberate dispensing of distorted information, and avoid commuting between provinces. Those who travel to another province will be required to undergo health checks and provide their personal details for tracking or quarantine.

Over the past week, provincial governors across the nation have issued orders and restrictions in accordance with the situation in each province, including entry and exit bans, closure of an extended list of venues and services, restrictions on opening hours of shops and services, and travel and activity restrictions in line with the directives under the state of emergency.
