All chocolate everything: Cocoa Valley Resort in Nan
Nestled away in the northern province of Nan is a delectable gem called Cocoa Valley Resort, which is by far one of the more aromatic memories of the otherwise rural province (except during the durian season, of course).
Nestled away in the northern province of Nan is a delectable gem called Cocoa Valley Resort, which is by far one of the more aromatic memories of the otherwise rural province (except during the durian season, of course).

Nan is still relatively new to tourism and is mostly rural villages and communities of people working in the agricultural sector, farming staples of Thailand's import and export industries, including sugarcane, rice, and various fruits. One thing that is commonly overlooked when observing Thailand's agricultural landscape, particularly in this region, is the abundance of cocoa trees. There are many rai of cocoa plantations in the province of Nan, notably Cocoa Valley Resort, which is just on the outskirts of the vast Doi Phu Kha National Park.

Cocoa Valley Resort is one of the few cocoa farms that is open to the public. It is unique in that it is also a hotel and restaurant that provides a chocolate-themed, homestay-style experience that is often enjoyed by both tourists and locals alike.

Visitors to the resort are not required to have a reservation to participate in the many activities available, including tours of the groves and hands-on activities like sifting the cocoa beans, laying the cocoa out to sun dry, and also picking other fruits that are growing alongside the cocoa trees.

For people who are not interested in doing the cocoa farm's hands-on aspect, there is also the option of doing some "post-production" work, aka - making your very own chocolate bars from the fruits of the trees growing on the farm. Inside of the Cocoa Valley Resort kitchen, the resort conducts regular chocolate-making workshops, which teach guests the process of taking chocolate all the way from the bean to the bar.

The best part? Just a couple of hours after the class, you'll be able to eat your own creation.

For guests that are looking to stay overnight at the resort, a reservation is required and can be made by visiting the website, here:
