The countries that are taking part in the event for the first time include Brunei, Cambodia, Chile, India, Indonesia, Norway and Ukraine. Germany is also taking part as partner country, with the goals of having participants as (1) producers/exporters of products in the food industry both locally and internationally and (2) Importers and sale representatives of products in the Thai food industry.

The Department of International Trade Promotion expects 150,000 visitors to the exhibition this year – 38,000 people during the business negotiation days and 112,000 during retail sale days. The exhibition is zoned in accordance with product categories and services such as a food and beverage zone, which include organic agricultural products, herbal products for consumption and halal food, as well as a catering service zone, a food service business zone, a food technology zone, and a retail and franchise zone.

THAIFEX – World of Food Asia also features interesting products and services such as the World of Seafood, the World of Coffee & Tea, and the World of Food Service. Also exhibited at the event are Thai food products that make up the world’s top five exported foods –rice, processed chicken, canned and processed seafood, frozen and processed prawns, and seasoning.

Mrs. Malee Choklumlerd, Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion said, “Asia is a region with high potential as it is a key source of world food production. This is because of the continent’s abundant natural resources and more than 3.4 billion rai of agricultural land or 11 per cent of the world’s agricultural basin.

“For Thailand, the food industry is regarded as a highly significant one. Thailand exports food products worth up to 1 trillion Baht to countries across the globe and is Asia’s third largest exporter after China and India. Thailand also serves as a link in the service businesses, especially the tourism and hotel sectors, international conventions and exhibitions, which are regarded as its strengths and make an impression on the world.

“Furthermore, the Kingdom’s food industry also creates a value chain to the agricultural sector, which is an important economic sector of Thailand as it involves more than 17 million, or 43 per cent, of the total number of the country’s labourers. This economic value will significantly increase, given that basic agricultural products are processed by the food industry,” Mrs. Malee concluded.

THAIFEX – World of Food Asia 2016 has been organised consistently for the past 25 years under the concept “Experience the Best in Asia”. The event aims to showcase Asian food that is unique, and also encapsulates our charming and beautiful culture that mesmerises people from around the world.
