The following galleries are to complement the feature story titled: Seeking out the awesome in Nakhon Si Thammarat

Gallery 1:  Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, dating from the 13th Century, is the most important temple in the south and is famous for bell-shaped 78-metre chedi. There is some stunning Buddhist art work to see and the market outside sells sweet local snacks and souvenirs to pilgrims and tourists.

Gallery 2: With the cleanest air in Thailand, and crossed by delightful rivers and streams, Kiriwong Village in the Laan Saka district is the perfect eco-tourism destination. It’s possible to make batik and tie-dye clothing or simply enjoy local snacks as you picnic by the river.

Gallery 3: Baan Tan Khun is located opposite Wat Phra Mahathat. This wooden building is a century old and made in the local Phan-Yah style. As you tour its rooms and look at the antiques it’s like taking a trip into yesteryear.

Gallery 4: Don’t miss the shadow puppet museum and show at Ban Nang Talung. The museum was established by artist Suchart Subsin who wanted to preserve this ancient form of storytelling and entertainment for future generations.

Gallery 5: Stop by the Uthokvibhajaprasid Barrage in Pak Phanang for a look at this impressive structure which preserves the rich rice-growing soils of Nakhon Si Thammarat. If you like seafood, fresh or dried, be sure to visit the nearby 100-year old market of Pak Phanang.
