Bangkok, 15 November, 2015 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has welcomed the launch of the first Bangkok City Guide by the globally-recognised fashion brand-name Louis Vuitton.

H.E. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Minister of Tourism and Sports began her speech at the welcome dinner for the Louis Vuitton City Guide Bangkok media familiarisation trip by expressing her deepest condolences to the people and government of France over the 13 November terrorist attacks in Paris.

Guests were invited to observe a minute’s silence to honour the memories of the dead and pray for all the victims, as well as their families. The event then proceeded normally.

Mrs. Kobkarn said: “We would like to thank Louis Vuitton for promoting Bangkok as one of the luxury destinations together with other cities in the guide book. At present promoting luxury travel is one of the priorities of the Thai tourism industry, as we are shifting to put more emphasis on promoting Thailand as a ‘Quality leisure Destination’ with the aim to grow visitor expenditure over visitor numbers, and enhance the average length of stay.”

Mr. Julien Guerrier, Publishing Director of Louis Vuitton City Guide Bangkok said, “Very much a 24-hour city, Bangkok is home to open-minded inhabitants imbued with a vital energy. With its legendary street food and a booming fine-dining scene, the city rightly claims to be Asia’s culinary capital. Bangkok also boasts a growing arts and entertainment scene, and its quality of life as well as vivacious ambience, which ensures that Bangkok will remain an ever-welcoming, world-class city.”

Louis Vuitton began publishing City Guides in 1998 and has this year added Bangkok, along with Chicago, Prague and Rome. Other Asian cities on the Guide Book list are Shanghai, Beijing, Seoul, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Each Louis Vuitton City Guide includes the participation of special guest contributors, who speak from personal experience of their home cities. Local celebrities or insiders take the reader on a personal exploration of their city, along the way sharing tips on their favourite spots: a first person singular initiation to the city. For the Bangkok

Guide Book, Louis Vuitton drew upon the expertise of well-known Thai designer and architect M. L. Poomchai Chumbala.

Headings in the apps are the same as in the original books, so users can find the essence of the City Guides in this touchscreen version. Each guide is on sale for €9.99 (THB 400) from the App Store.
