Thailand hosts Miss Universe China 2016 finalists for a week of meaningful activities

Bangkok, 29 October, 2016 – Thailand is hosting 16 finalists in the Miss Universe China 2016 pageant for a week of meaningful and joyful activities in Bangkok, Pattaya and Chiang Mai this week (28 October to 3 November).

Viewers of the pageant broadcast will have the opportunity to seeing the finalists discover the many uniquely local experiences in Thailand during the final round on 12 November, 2016.

During this week in Thailand, the 16 finalists in the Miss Universe China 2016 will be joined by Ms. Yun Fang Xue, who was crowned Miss Universe China 2015, and the Miss Universe China Organisation’s team members, totalling 40 participants. The finalists will have the chance to learn diverse aspects of Thailand’s local experience of enchanting culture and traditions.

The 16 finalists in the Miss Universe China 2016 learned the traditional Thai form of greeting and showing respect or the wai at Wat Thewarat Kunchorn Worawihan temple in Bangkok on 29 October. They will be taking traditional Thai dance classes on 30 and 31 October in Chiang Mai.

During the rest of their stay, the finalists will be learning Thai Boxing and elephant bathing, as well as taking part in many charitable and social responsible activities. In addition, they will also take part in fashion shows and post for a photo-shoot.

This week activity in Thailand of the 16 finalists in the Miss Universe China 2016 pageant is a result of the high-profile agreement signing ceremony which took place on 29 June, 2016, in Shanghai, the People’s Republic of China and was presided over by Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor, and Ms. Yue-Sai Kan, the official licensee for the People’s Republic of China of the Miss Universe Organisation.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor said, “The agreement forms part of the TAT’s plan to enhance Thailand’s quality leisure destination appeal with the goal of becoming one of Asia top three tourism revenue generators through an emphasis on attracting visitors with high purchasing power.

“For the Chinese market in particular, the hosting of 16 finalists in the Miss Universe China 2016 will help attract more affluent travellers from China to Thailand.”

Their activities in Thailand of the 16 finalists in the Miss Universe China 2016, which will be publicised through various media platforms in China, is expected to positively raise Thailand’s profile and strengthen its position as a Quality Leisure Destination for Chinese visitors. The coverage is estimated to have reached more than 700 million people.

China is Thailand’s largest source of tourist markets. Thailand welcomed 7.9 million travellers from China in 2015. The figure is expected to reach 10 million in 2016.
