Theme: Forbidden Pagoda
Duration 3 minutes
Location: Wat Phra Bat Pu Pha Daeng, Lampang
EPISODE SYNOPSIS
The first ray of dawn over the horizon casts golden light on Wat Phra Bat Pu Pha Daeng, or Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat Phra Chomklao Ratchanuson, a temple perched imposingly on a clifftop at 815 metres above sea level.
Located in Doi Phra Bat Wildlife Sanctuary in Chae Hom district in the Northern Thai province of Lampang, this temple is famous for its cluster of more than 10 purely white Lankan-style mountaintop pagodas.
This temple is believed by the locals to be a sacred site, where an impression of the Buddha’s Footprint on a huge stone slab was found.
Each day, a lot of faithful Buddhists come to worship the temple’s main pagoda, the golden shrine where the founder’s footprint is installed. Ascending the stairway to the pagoda, these worshippers can delight in the lush vegetation and serene nature on either side.
At the temple’s highest point, a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view awaits each visitor. In most winter mornings, the clifftop pagodas are enveloped by waves of mist that create an ethereal atmosphere. In the evening, the setting sun reveals an awesome vista of Chae Hom district and its rivers, the Mae Soi, Mae Mon and Mae Wang, extending as far as the horizon. Thanks to its majestic atmosphere, Wat Phra Bat Pu Pha Daeng is regarded as one of the most amazing, must-visit attractions in Thailand.
