Status quo at Ko Samui’s Chaweng Beach, fishing boat towed away

Bangkok, 27 November, 2019 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) Ko Samui Office has reported that the situation at Ko Samui’s Chaweng Beach has returned to normal and the wrecked fishing boat has been towed to shore.

According to the TAT Ko Samui Office, a fishing boat was swept by the waves and washed up off Chaweng Beach, Ko Samui, late this morning. Officials successfully arranged to tow the boat to shore in the early afternoon and have raised red flags to indicate that the water is unsafe and closed to all swimmers, citing an oil spill and strong currents are present.

Officials, volunteers, hotel staff and tourists were seen helping to clean up the remaining debris from the wrecked fishing boat. Chaweng Beach is now returning to its natural beauty pending official announcement when it is safe for swimming.
