Bangkok, 24 September 2025 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) proudly highlights the latest international recognition for Suvarnabhumi Airport, which has been elevated to a 4 Star Airport by Skytrax, the UK-based global authority on airline and airport standards. Announced on 12 September 2025, the upgrade reflects broad service enhancements and infrastructure improvements at Thailand’s primary international gateway.

The new rating recognises Suvarnabhumi’s progress in passenger experience, from streamlined check-in and immigration to modernised facilities including automated passport control, faster boarding pass systems, clearer signage, upgraded restrooms, expanded charging points, and faster Wi-Fi. Coming developments will introduce Kids and Gaming Zones, co-working spaces, and cultural showcases, reinforcing the airport’s role as a hub that blends efficiency with Thai hospitality.
Handling more than 60 million passengers annually, Suvarnabhumi serves as Thailand’s principal hub for both domestic and international travel. The 4 Star achievement strengthens its reputation as a key aviation centre in Asia, while supporting its long-term ambition to secure 5 Star status.
This accolade follows another milestone in July 2025, when Brilliant Maps ranked Suvarnabhumi as the world’s number one airport for airline connectivity, with 113 carriers operating scheduled services. This placed Bangkok ahead of Paris Charles de Gaulle (105 carriers), Dubai International (97 carriers), Istanbul International (93 carriers), and Rome Fiumicino (92 carriers), cementing its status as a truly global hub.
Suvarnabhumi has also advanced rapidly in the Skytrax World’s Best Airports ranking, moving from 58th to 39th this year, with the aim of breaking into the global top 20 within the next five years. The immediate priority is to expand annual capacity from 60 million to 80 million passengers through the eastern extension of Terminal 1, scheduled for completion by 2030. Longer-term plans include a new Terminal 2 and a fourth runway, ultimately boosting capacity to 120 million passengers per year and reinforcing Suvarnabhumi’s standing among the world’s leading airports.
Together, these achievements highlight Thailand’s commitment to global standards in aviation and tourism, enhancing the positive image of the kingdom as the No. 1 destination and reaffirming Suvarnabhumi Airport as the gateway to world-class travel experiences in Thailand.
