Survey says Thailand has the most smiling selfie pictures on Instagram
Bangkok, 24 December, 2015 – Bangkok people’s selfie pictures posted on Instagram are found to have the most smiling faces in the world, according to the UK researchers who conducted a mood analysis survey from more than 150,000 selfie pictures from the top five popular Instagram cities.
The new research project studies Instagram data from Bangkok, Berlin, Moscow, New York, and Sao Paulo, using a mix of theoretic, artistic and quantitative methods and presents its findings about the demographics of people taking selfies, their poses and expressions. The survey result has been revealed recently on the selfiecity.net website.
Based on 640 photos from 150,000 selfies on Instagram, which were particularly selected for an exhibition, it found out that selfie photos of people in Bangkok topped the rank with 0.68 average smile scores, followed by people of Sao Paolo in Brazil, which have an average smile score of 0.64.
The survey also stated that Bangkok is the youngest selfie city with an average age of 21 years.
Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said, “This survey confirms to the world that Thailand is a country of happy people, and why Thailand is called the Land of Smiles. Our happiness comes from within and we want to share it to the world. And in this era, Instagram is one of the best social media channels to show our happiness to our friends and people from around the world.”
According to Selfiecity’s mood analysis, people in Bangkok and Sao Paulo appear to be happier than people in Moscow. Perhaps it is just that they are more selfie-satisfied, the survey stated.
