TAT Deputy Governor recognised as one of “Outstanding Women of the Year 2015”

Bangkok, 18 March, 2015 – Mrs. Somrak Kumputch, Deputy Governor for Administration of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), was one amongst a number of prominent Thai women recognised in the “Outstanding Women of the Year 2015” Awards conferred by the Ministry of Labour to mark International Women’s Day.

Outstanding_Women_of_the_Year_2015Awarded in the category of “Female Executive of a State Enterprise”, Mrs Somrak was conferred the award by Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali at a ceremony on 5 March, 2015, at the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel.

The Awards are organised by the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, Ministry of Labour to honour women who have played an exemplary role in promoting women’s rights and in the implementation of women’s development.

Mrs. Somrak commented, “I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive the Award. I hope to continue contributing positively in the years ahead to the cause of tourism promotion.”

After joining TAT in 1980, Mrs Somrak became Director of the Procurement and Supply Management Division between 2003-2006. She was appointed Director of the Budget Analysis Division in 2009, Director of the General Administration Department in 2010, and Deputy Governor for Administration in 2013.

She also headed the TAT’s State Enterprise Labour Union between 2002 and 2003, and has played a major role over the years in improving the TAT’s Corporate Governance, administrative mechanisms, and staff benefits and working conditions.

The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare has been campaigning for women’s rights by raising public awareness on the importance of working women and promoting equal opportunities in workplaces as well as developing their legal knowledge.

This year, a total of 29 women were recognised as outstanding working women in six categories: senior executive level, operational level, independent career women, labour sector, mass media and development organisations.
