Bangkok, 5 April, 2016 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in cooperation with the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, and the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) today hosted an academic seminar on the topics of ‘Industrial and Agricultural Tourism’ and “Investment Opportunities in the Field of Tourism” at Bangkok’s Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel.
The seminar was arranged as one of a series of joint events following the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between TAT and JETRO on 27 November, 2015. The MOC’s aim is promote business between Thailand and Japan in terms of trade, tourism and investment and to boost Thailand’s standing as a hub of development in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS).
Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of the TAT, said, “The signing of an MOC between Japan and Thailand is a milestone in the long relationship between Thailand and Japan and will enhance communication, collaboration and cooperation, and benefit the business and tourism sector in both nations. It is by sharing expertise at the highest levels and giving Thai and Japanese businesses the chance to learn from each other that success will come. Events like this joint seminar enable us to network and learn how to drive the industry forward together.”
Keynote speakers presented at the Bangkok seminar included Dr. Hironobu Kitagawa, JETRO’s Director General of the Service Industry Promotion Department, who gave a lecture on the topic of ‘What is industrial and agricultural tourism?’, Mr Kenichi Goto, CEO of Prot Asia and Pacific Inc. and Regional Vitalisation Adviser as designated by Japan’s Cabinet Office, who presented a talk on ‘Industrial and Agriculture Tourism” with case studies from Hokkaido. Meanwhile, Mr. Tomohiro Takashima, Deputy Director General of JETRO’s Invest Japan Department, presented a lecture on ‘Investment Opportunities in the Field of Tourism in Japan.”
Also at the seminar was a presentation of case studies from various Thai companies that have invested successfully in Japan. These included the Asian Herb Association, World Pro Travel, and Coca Holding International among others.
The seminar was held at Bangkok’s Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel on 5 April, 2016, from 09:30 – 15:30 hrs., and was attended by representatives from the trade, investment, and tourism sectors from Thailand and Japan.
