Bangkok, 29 July, 2016 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) organised the Thailand Golf Travel Mart 2016 on 27-29 July in the Eastern seaside Thai city of Pattaya, Chon Buri. Last year, the event took place in August 2015, in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan.
Mr. Visanu Jaroensilp, TAT Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business said, “Building on the tremendous success of last year’s edition, this year’s Mart again helps strengthen Thailand’s premier position as a world-class golf destination and, as a result, attract more golfers to the country. This is in line with our broader tourism marketing strategy to promote Thailand as a quality leisure destination through Thainess by focusing on offering unique Thai local experiences through the Thai culture and way of life.”
The Thailand Golf Travel Mart 2016 was attended by more than 300 participants, including some 165 specialist golf holiday buyers invited by 27 TAT’s overseas offices. They had the opportunity to discuss prospect businesses with about 92 Thai sellers from golf courses and service providers like golf schools, equipment retailers, travel agents and tour operators, hotels, spa operators, and other related businesses. TAT also invited about 42 local and international media to gain insights into the event as well as Thailand’s myriad of offers for golf holidays.
Highlights of the three-day golf travel mart includde a golf tournament on 27 July at Burapha Golf Club and Laem Chabang International Country Club, the buyer-meet-seller sessions on 28 and 29 July, and special evening events on 27 and 28 July.
Mr. Visanu said, “Thanks to Thailand’s tropical climate, our country is in all-year round playing condition. There is a wide choice of golf courses; more than 200 courses with superb facilities and choices of unbeatable courses designed by leading professionals along with a wide range of accommodation to comfort golfers after teeing off.”
Many Thai golf courses and destinations are winning global awards. Pattaya and Hua Hin were voted as the Golf Destination of the Year for Asia and Australia by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) in 2011 and 2013, respectively.
Moreover, Thailand boasts diverse activities outside golf including awe-inspiring temples and shrines, cheerful local markets and street stalls, marvellous beaches, world-class shopping malls and spas, exceptional cuisine, and much more.
Mr. Visanu added, “It’s the unique aspects of our Thai culture that make us stand out and gives us the edge – people become charmed by the Thai way of life, the nation’s glorious heritage, and the Thai people with their warm service and friendly smiles. It is this local hospitality that attracts millions of people back to Thailand every year.”
