Bangkok, 11 August, 2016 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)’s first ever Lady Golf Challenge recently took place at the prestigious Alpine Golf and Sports Club in Pathumthani, about 40km north of Bangkok.
Some 110 women golfers from all over Asia came to take part and were given tips by professional golfers including Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum and India’s Number One Vani Kapoor – the TAT’s Thailand Golf Ambassador in Thailand and India, respectively.
The Lady Golf Challenge 2016, which took place on 9 August, was arranged as part of TAT’s Women’s Journey Campaign which is running throughout the month to promote a range of female-friendly attractions and experiences in the kingdom.
The Lady Golf Challenge invited enthusiastic women golfers to come and play on one of Thailand’s top golf courses and enjoy a range of hospitality and social activities.
Mrs. Srisuda Wanapinyosak, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing Asia and South Pacific said, “The Lady Golf Challenge 2016 was a great success and everyone who played enjoyed a wonderful day’s golf on the stunning Alpine Golf and Sports Club.
“There was a real spirit of camaraderie as great friendships were made both on the greens and while enjoying the gala dinner. We hope that all the participating golfers took home many happy memories of Thailand not to mention tips from the pros that will improve their game.”
The participating golfers met for a Thai lunch at the Alpine Golf and Sports Club before heading to the driving range to take lessons from the female golf pros, Ms. Pornanong Phatlum and Ms. Vani Kapoor. They then headed out in pairs onto the 72 par course in golf carts; each golfer assigned an individual caddy.
After a day of world-class golf, the clear winner was Ms. Judy Kong of Singapore who scored an impressive 39. The participating golfers were then treated to a gala dinner at the Alpine Golf and Sports Club with a raffle and some exciting prizes on offer.
Mrs. Srisuda added, “Thailand has long been an attractive destination for golfers and our many of our courses, like the one at the Alpine Golf and Sports Club are world-class. We were happy to invite these lady golfers of Asia to Thailand to enjoy a female friendly golf day and we hope that this is the first of many such Ladies Golf Challenges to attract women players from all over the world.”
