Sleek new railway carriages introduced on overnight routes

Bangkok, 4 November, 2016 – The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has unveiled 39 sleek new railway carriages which will go into service from mid-November on four long-haul domestic routes. These are Bangkok-Chiang Mai and Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani and the Bangkok-Nong Khai and Bangkok-Hat Yai routes which will come into service on 2 December, 2016.

The new carriages will feature first class sleeper cars with 12 private rooms that have bunk beds for two passengers, video screens and power supplies that support a USB charger. The second-class sleeper cars also have video screens and charging facilities. There are also better facilities to for passengers using wheelchairs and vacuum toilets.

Fares on the daily routes range from 1,157 to 1,594 Baht for first class tickets and 731 to 945 Baht for second class. The SRT expects that the new carriages will serve over one million passengers every year.
