TAT promotes Royal Projects at ITB Asia 2017 in honour of the late King Bhumibol

Singapore, 27 October, 2017 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has reiterated its promotions of unique Thai local experiences at the various Royal Projects nationwide in honour of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, at ITB Asia 2017.

TAT led 40 Thai exhibitors to promote Thailand’s tourism as well as to give a preview of its new marketing concept “Open to the New Shades of Thailand” at the three-day Asia’s leading travel trade show, held from 25 to 27 October in Singapore. This made Thailand one of the largest representations at ITB Asia, representing 60 per cent of exhibitors from the region.

Mr. Santi Chudintra (in above picture), TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Asia and the South Pacific said the past 70 years during the reign of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej was a source of blessing, inspiration and wisdom.

“King Bhumibol will always be revered by the Thai people for his dedication to improving their lives. His concept of self-sufficiency could have the most positive impact. He believed that the economy benefits from balance and moderation, and that any long-term goals must take into account environmental balance.”

To put into practice some of King Bhumibol’s ideas, communities around Thailand are pursuing sustainable ways of living and trying to preserve ancient farming practices, as well as traditional medicines, foods and handicrafts.

Mr. Santi said, “Many of these communities welcome tourists, who get to enjoy a unique Thai local experience while playing their own part in sustaining the Kingdom’s culture.”

TAT’s products under the “Unique Thai Local Experiences” integrate the many Royal Projects, especially the more accessible ones, including the Doi Tung Development Project in Chiang Rai; Royal Agricultural Station Ang Khang in Chiang Mai, and the Chang Hua Man Royal Initiative Project in Phetchaburi. These projects also form part of TAT’s 70 Routes in His Majesty’s Footstep.

Meanwhile, Mr. Santi said Thailand is promoting a major regional campaign called Visit ASEAN@50 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN as well as the 25th anniversary since the Visit ASEAN Year.

“So Thailand is proud to be hosting the next ASEAN Tourism Forum 2018 in our northern capital city of Chiang Mai from 22 to 26 January, 2018,” he added.

This will be Thailand’s sixth ATF since hosting its first in 1985. But this will be the first time that Thailand will be hosting the prestigious regional travel trade show in the city often known as the “Rose of the North” under the theme “ASEAN – Sustainable connectivity, Boundless Prosperity”.
