Phuket, 20 September, 2018 – A joint maritime search and rescue exercise led by the Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command was held yesterday at Chalong Pier.
Also taking part in the drill were officials from maritime safety authorities and related agencies including Phuket Province, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation – Phuket Office, Phuket Marine Office, Phuket Office of Tourism and Sports and Tourist Assistance Centre.
Phuket Provincial Governor Mr. Norraphat Plodthong said the exercise was part of the overall plans to step up marine safety and to strengthen the abilities of rescue teams in the province. This in turn will help boost the confidence among local and international tourists to Phuket and nearby destinations.
