Bangkok, 25 October, 2018 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is proud to have been involved in the success of the L’Etape Thailand by Le Tour de France cycling race in Phang Nga from 19-21 October 2018. Held in Southeast Asia for the first time, the landmark event showcased Thailand’s potential as a sports tourism destination.
Sports tourism is a key focus of the TAT’s “Amazing Thailand Open to the New Shades” communication concept. It can attract tourists and investors to Thailand, while also boost the kingdom’s sporting industry.
Spanish racer and two-time Tour de France champion Alberto Contador, as event ambassador, participated in the race, which offered 140 km and 70 km distances starting in Khao Lak and finishing in Ta Kua Pa.
Also present was Mr. Tanes Petsuwan, TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications (below photo, 2nd from right), who said high profile events; such as, L’Etape Thailand by Le Tour de France and early October’s inaugural Thailand MotoGP in Buri Ram, were invaluable in enhacning Thailand’s image as a world-class sports destination.
The Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) bid for the right to host the top class cycling event and won a three-year deal with Le Tour de France. Thailand also has a three-year deal to host the Thailand MotoGP from 2018 to 2020.
