Bangkok, 16 May 2024 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is inviting Thai and foreign tourists to enjoy the freshest durian, the “King of Fruit”, at the ‘Durian Expo at Simummuang Market’ in Pathum Thani, near Bangkok, from 21-26 May 2024.

Mr. Charnyuth Setsuwan, Director of the TAT Bangkok Office, said “Visitors will be spoilt for choice when they enter Si Mumuang Market’s fruit centre and discover many varieties of Thai Durians. After experiencing this ultimate Durian extravaganza, they can also visit nearby attractions in Pathum Thani, which is a neighbouring province of Bangkok.”

Over 100,000 durians of many popular and special varieties of Thailand will be available around the clock throughout the six days.

Activities include contests of Thai durian varieties, durian peeling competition, durian eating competition, showcases of rare Thai durian varieties, and ripe durian selection workshop, to name a few.

There are also special sales where visitors can purchase a durian of certain varieties for only at 99 Baht per one whole fruit. In addition, for every 500 Baht purchase, get a 50 Baht coupon for the next purchase of at least 500 Baht.

Ms. Panalee Phataraprasit, Assistant Managing Director of Simummuang Market, said “Simummuang Market is one of Asia’s largest central wholesale markets for food products. The market is 560,000 square metres in size and has a trading volume of over 8,000 tons per day. About 70 per cent of the fruits and vegetables consumed in Bangkok and the Metropolitan area are supplied through Simummuang Market.”

The market is situated on over 350 rai of land in Lam Luk Ka District, Pathum Thani province, or about eight kilometres from Don Mueang International Airport.

Pathum Thani is located north of Bangkok. Places of interest in the province include the Former City Hall, the Supreme Artist Hall, Dream World, the Golden Jubilee Museum of Agriculture, National Science Museum, National Geological Museum, and may temples such as Wat Chedi Thong and Wat Phai Lom.
