Bangkok, 3 November 2026 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) supported Doi Inthanon National Park in Chiang Mai in earning a place among the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories 2026, joining 15 other Thai locations recognised for sustainable tourism practices. The achievement is part of TAT’s Sustainable Product Prototype 2026 initiative, which prepares destinations to meet national and international sustainability standards.

Thailand’s results were announced at the Green Destinations Global Conference 2026, held from 27–29 October in Kranj, Slovenia, where the Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, led the Thai delegation.  Three Thai destinations received Bronze-level Green Destinations Awards: Ko Tao in Surat Thani, Mae Puem National Park in Phayao and Uthai Thani Old Town in Uthai Thani, complementing the 16 Top 100 Stories selections.

The recognition reflects joint efforts by the Department of Tourism, TAT and the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA) to develop destinations in line with international sustainability criteria.

Doi Inthanon National Park was selected as a model destination under TAT’s Sustainable Product Prototype 2026 project (Chiang Mai Prototype). TAT coordinated the application process and guided the park’s best-practice story for international consideration. The initiative focuses on sustainable destination management, responsible tourism products and services, and readiness to welcome responsible travellers.

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, said, “Doi Inthanon’s selection creates new opportunities to share Thailand’s sustainable tourism practices through international networks and strengthen confidence among Thai and overseas travellers. We hope it will inspire more destinations and tourism businesses to adopt sustainability standards that deliver real benefits. TAT will continue working with partners to develop tourism experiences that meet international standards, create economic opportunities for local communities and protect the natural and cultural resources that make each destination unique.”

The Green Destinations Top 100 Stories programme showcases good practices from destinations worldwide, highlighting practical approaches to environmental protection, community wellbeing, cultural preservation and responsible tourism management.

Of Thailand’s 15 other selected destinations, nine were supported by the Department of Tourism: Mae Hong Son Town in Mae Hong Son; Ban Chiang in Udon Thani; Bang Rong–Pa Khlok in Phuket; Khun Khan and Mae Wang National Parks in Chiang Mai; Ko Tao in Surat Thani; Phetchaburi Old Town in Phetchaburi; Doi Phu Kha National Park in Nan; and Takua Pa Old Town in Phang-nga.

The remaining six were supported by DASTA: Chiang Khan in Loei; Nan Old Town in Nan; Sukhothai Old Town in Sukhothai; U Thong Ancient City in Suphan Buri; and Ban Amphoe and Takhian Tia communities in Chon Buri.

A combined 31 entries were supported in 2026 across the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories and Good Travel Stories Competition, providing further opportunities for Thai destinations, tourism businesses and communities to present their sustainable tourism practices internationally.
