Taipei, 26 February, 2016 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) successfully hosted the “Amazing Thailand Road Show to Taipei 2016” on 24 February, aimed at creating an effective business-to-business platform to provide the latest updates on Thailand’s tourism products to stimulating the Taiwan tourist market.

Ms. Runjuan Tongrut, TAT Executive Director of the East Asia Region, led a group of Thailand’s tourism delegates to meet with Taiwan’s tour operators. She also provided the overall tourism situation of Thailand, emphasising the strong growth on the tourist numbers and the healthy tourism revenue in 2015, as well as illustrated the meaning of the newly-launched Amazing Thailand’s Smile that it represents Thailand, a smiling kingdom with “Friendship, Enjoyment, Happiness, and Hospitality”. This is Ms. Runjuan’s first tourism promotion event in the East Asia region, following her recent promotion into the post, from previous being the Director of the TAT New Delhi Office.

The Amazing Thailand Road Show to Taipei 2016 brought 49 sellers from Thailand, consisting of 34 hotels and resorts, six local tour operators, two golf courses, five shopping malls, and one airline (Bangkok Airways), as well as the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB). The participants came from various parts of Thailand including Bangkok, Pattaya, Ko Samui, Phuket, and Krabi.

During the opening remarks of the Amazing Thailand Road Show to Taipei 2016 in Taipei, Taiwan, Mr. Piroon Laismit, Executive Director of the Thailand Trade and Economic Office encouraged Taiwanese tourists to explore not only famous Thai tourist attractions, but also some other unseen places under the theme of “Discover Thainess” by TAT.

Taiwanese buyers provided feedback that they had collected sufficient useful tourism information not only from the hotels, but also activities, entertainment and incentive supports, which would enable them to effectively promoting Thailand as a quality leisure destination to Taiwanese tourists.

The road show ended with a fruitful achievement followed by a reception dinner hosted by TCEB for the Taiwanese buyers under the theme of “Thailand CONNECT: Our Heart, Your World”, which is TCEB’s marketing campaign for 2016.

TCEB also provided a brief about the support schemes to encourage more Taiwanese meetings and incentive groups to choose Thailand as the destination for their events.

Thailand has continuously won many awards and has been ranked as one of the most popular travel destinations in the world. This shows that tourists have confidence in Thailand’s tourism for its value for money and quality service.

Mr. Nuan Sarnsorn, TAT Taipei Office Director said during her market briefing for the Taiwan Market 2016, under the theme of “Amazing Thailand” that, “This year, the TAT Taipei Office has taken a crucial role in developing theme tours to connect with Thainess and to attract major segments including Luxury, Office Lady, and Youth. The most popular theme tours will include Youth and Graduation, Wedding and Honeymoon, Sports and Ecotourism, Health and Wellness, and Culture and Festivals.”

The TAT Taipei Office plans to focus on both on first visitors and repeat travellers, and will continue to work closely with airlines, travel agents and travel associations, sharing more smiles and happiness of Thailand with Taiwanese tourists.

According to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, R.O.C., Taiwanese tourists outbound to Thailand during January to December 2015 accounted for 599,523 pax, growing 43.04% compared to 2014, with the number one growth rate in which it was the highest among all of Asia in 2015. According to TAT’s information, the expenditure for Taiwanese tourists per trip was estimated at 38,000 Baht generating total tourism revenue per year of approximately 22,782 billion Baht.

The above statistics show that Thailand’s tourism has a lot of potential to grow in the Taiwan market. In the future, the TAT Taipei Office will focus both on first visitors and repeat travellers, and will continue to work closely with the airlines, travel agents and travel associations, sharing more smile and happiness of Thailand with Taiwanese tourists.
