TAT and Gurunavi Inc sign Comprehensive Partnership Agreement for food and tourism

Bangkok, 06 December, 2017 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Gurunavi Inc has signed a partnership agreement to promote tourism and food culture rooted in Thailand and Japan. The MOU was signed by Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor, and Mr. Hisao Taki, Chairman and Representative Director, CEO Gurunavi Inc

The collaboration between TAT and Gurunavi Inc for the advancement of tourism and food culture is yet another testament to the Kingdom’s growing gastronomic scene in the international market.

Mr. Yuthasak said “Food is indeed the root of any culture, and many Thai dishes and Thailand’s restaurants have made us all proud over the years.”

“The latest collaboration between the TAT and Gurunavi will be another step to demonstrate that Thai food is something that all visitors to Thailand enjoy, and will pave the way for us to reach out to more markets in their own languages and get them excited about the Kingdom as a destination for wonderful culinary journey and memorable travel experience.”

This partnership also marks the 130th anniversary of official diplomatic relations between Thailand and Japan.  Guruvani and TAT are currently discussing various plans and activities to boost tourism between the two countries.

While Thailand’s most recommended restaurants will be featured prominently on the Gurunavi website, trend of Japanese food in Thailand continues to spread and is becoming rooted as one of Thai food cultures. At the same time, “Pakchee Dishes” or dishes made with cilantro was selected as Japan’s Dish of the Year 2016 by the annual survey conducted by Gurunavi Research Institute.

During January to November 2017, Thailand recorded six per cent increase on number of Japanese visitors to more than 1.39 million. For 2017, the TAT expects an increase of 5.86 per cent year-on-year to 1.5 million Japanese visitors, which earn a total of 65.2 billion Baht for the Thai economy.
